Across the built-ins, columns and wine units we service in Evergreen, Sub-Zero problems cluster into a handful of familiar faults. Knowing which is which saves a lot of worry, because most are serviceable parts rather than the end of the unit.
The Problems We Fix Most
- A condenser clogged with dust, causing slow warming at altitude
- Defrost heater or sensor faults frosting the evaporator
- Evaporator or condenser fan motor failures
- Door gasket wear letting warm air leak into the cabinet
- A sealed-system fault on one of the two systems
How the Symptoms Sort Out
| Symptom | Likely Cause | What the Fix Involves |
|---|---|---|
| Slow warming, runs constantly | Dirty condenser | Clean the condenser and verify recovery |
| Frost on the coil, section warm | Defrost fault | Repair the defrost heater or sensor |
| Noisy or warm compartment | Failed evaporator fan | Replace the fan motor |
| Condensation around the door | Worn gasket | Replace the door gasket |
What to Check First
Start with the simple things: confirm the condenser is clean, the door seals fully, and the vents inside are not blocked. If the unit still will not hold temperature, the defrost, fans and sealed system are tested in order. Because built-ins run two sealed systems, we confirm which one is affected first.
When to Stop and Book
If you smell gas, see water reaching electrical parts, or a unit is warming with food inside, stop troubleshooting and arrange service. A quick diagnosis costs less than a guessed part.
